Writing Center
- The Writing Center is open to all registered students at Mississippi State University.
- Students are welcome to utilize the Writing Center on their own initiative or following informal referral. We suggest encouraging students to visit the Writing Center once per assignment, and encouraging them to bring the assignment with them.
- Students also may be formally referred to the Writing Center. (Referral

- Sessions are currently scheduled on a drop-in basis.
- Sessions normally begin on the hour or half-hour and last 25 minutes.
- Four to five consultants are available during most hours of operation.
- The Writing Center does not offer group instruction to classes at this time, nor is it designed to accommodate class 'visits.'
- First-time users will be required to sign a contract specifying the
policies governing each session with a writing consultant. (Writing

- Students who visit the Writing Center are encouraged to fill out an evaluation form after each session.
- The Writing Center retains records of student visits, including which consultant the student worked with and what materials were covered during the session.
Type and focus of assistance:
- Students of all skill levels are encouraged to visit the Writing Center at any stage in the writing process.
- The Writing Center is not a paper editing service, but is designed to help students learn about writing and thereby improve their own writing.
- We can help all students to understand their assignments, coach them in the generative stages of writing, provide feedback to their drafts, and help them in the final stages of their writing.
- We will not proofread student work, but we will point out patterns of sentence-level error and teach students to edit their own work.
